With the construction of this building, the two institutions - "Milwaukee Art Institute" and "Layton Art Gallery" - merged creating the "Milwaukee Art Museum".
The museum was enlarged in 1975 by David Kahler, and in 2000 by Santiago Calatrava (see dossier)
